Abstract

This seminar will explore the current goals of the Genetics and Genomics Academy in the context of undergraduate education at NC State. Topics will include courses strategically designed for students outside of the life sciences as well as strategies for attracting and mentoring a diverse cohort of instructors, including faculty, graduate students, postdocs, and external experts. We will explore innovative pedagogies that cater to diverse backgrounds, perspectives, and interests ensuring that genetics education is accessible and engaging for all learners. We will highlight successful models, address potential challenges, and propose adaptable frameworks that instructors can implement to create a more diverse and inclusive community. Finally, we will underscore the importance of collaboration in enhancing interdisciplinary genetics education. By showcasing successful collaborative programs, we will illustrate how bringing together faculty, students, and experts from various disciplines enriches the learning experience for all. The seminar will offer insights into fostering partnerships and creating a synergistic environment that elevates the interdisciplinary aspects of genetics education.
