Honoring Bruce Weir: A Career-Spanning Symposium
Bruce Weir, Former Director of the Bioinformatics Research Center
Join us for a special retirement symposium for Bruce Weir, a long-time faculty member and former director of the Bioinformatics Research Center at NC State. This symposium, recognizing Weir’s contributions to Statistical Genetics and Bioinformatics at NC State, will feature presentations from current faculty, student talks, and stories from past students! Coffee, refreshments, and lunch will be served (see the schedule below for more details).
“Bruce Weir completed his PhD in Statistics at NCSU under the direction of Clark Cockerham in 1968. He returned here as a Statistics faculty member in 1976 and remained at NC State until becoming Chair of Biostatistics at the University of Washington in 2006. He retired from UW in 2023. At NC State he was the driving force behind Bioinformatics development on campus. He led the efforts to create both the Bioinformatics Graduate Program (1999) and the Bioinformatics Research Center (2000), and he was the founding director of each of those.”
